Welcome to the Feminist Linux Meetup for Women, Non-Binary*, Trans* and Inter* people.
What does that mean? tl;dr:
This meetup is open for women* and non-binary folks who are interested in talking about Linux to others. Non-binary in this case means that you neither identify as a woman or a as man. It does not mean that you only code in fuzzy logic and not use binary digits. It would be awesomely queer to do so in a way, but believe us, we all have to rely mostly on binary code ;). If the * behind women or the notion of non-binary genders irritates you, please read our full explanation of this invitation policy.
We want to create a monthly space for feminist Linux enthusiasts and people interested in Linux. It is a space for skill sharing and an informal knowledge transfer, where you can try out Linux in a laid-back setting.
We orientate towards a certain shared framework and we have attempted to document that in the following pages:
What? Linux??
Maybe you’ve heard of Linux before but you’re not sure how to use it? Have you ever wondered what an operating system is and would like to further explore in a cozy environment? Or maybe you’re already a Linux expert and have found your fav distribution but are still on the search for feminist peers? Or maybe you’re searching for a welcoming environment and people that can help you out with Linux question and you want to learn new things by trying stuff out?
Getting in and getting involved
If you’re curious about what we do, drop by one of our meetup sessions! We try to announce the dates in time as posts in the Dates section. We also have a mailing list and a Discord server that we use for communication outside of the meetups. You can find out more about that here.
If you’re unsure whether the space or the topic is fitting for you, you can also write us with your questions or concerns in advance. At the meetups, you can ask who our Welcome Host of the session is, so they can further explain how the meetups work.
